In 2009, the winter began to be particularly harsh. The Champagne region experienced intermittent snow and prolonged low temperatures. The spring was warm but rainy. The weather was not conducive to flowering, and mildew threatened the vines. Although there are some periods of thunderstorms that raised some concern for the health of the vines, the summer was predominantly sunny, especially in August. For five consecutive weeks, it was hot and the weather was dry and very sunny. On September 4, a hail storm hit the Hautvillers, Verzenay and Chouilly vineyards. However, the summer weather reappeared the following day and the grapes will continue to ripen without setbacks. The harvest began on September 12 with absolutely magnificent conditions. The grapes were perfectly healthy and ripe, as evidenced by an amazing aromatic expression that is simply sublime.
