Contador has become one of Spain's great cult wines. This is especially true after two consecutive vintages of achieving one of the highest awards a wine can achieve: 100 Parker points, earned in the 2004 and 2005 vintages.
Contador is produced by the great Benjamín Romeo at Bodega Contador, a legendary winery in the La Rioja D.O., and is a blend of 94% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano, and 3% Mazuelo.
The grapes come from small plots owned by the winery, distributed in various towns in the Rioja Alavesa region: San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Briones, Ábalos, and Labastida.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance
Deep cherry color, high intensity and brightness, with slightly purple reflections.
Nose
Elegant and complex aromas with a presence of ripe black and red fruits such as blackberries, currants, and cherries. It is complemented by mineral notes and light herbal nuances (thyme, rosemary, sandalwood) and a background of noble wood, spices, and balsamic notes.
Palate
Powerful entry, notable volume, and silky texture. Excellent balance between ripe fruit and the complexity provided by the wood. Structured and polished tannins. Very long, persistent, and concentrated finish, with lingering mineral and herbal sensations.
