Mortlach The Katana's Edge Special Release 2023

This Mortlach, known by the nickname The Katana's Edge, as it is inspired by the flavors of Japan and the precision and skill harnessed in the crafting of legendary katana blades, is very special, being one of only two in the Diageo Special Releases 2023, Spirited Xchange collection that does not have a specific age.

This is a natural cask strenght, bottled as it comes out of the cask without being watered down, which is brewed in Dufftown (Speyside) and is surprisingly fruity and spicy for a Mortlach, but boasts a round, richly flavored body, with a wild umami note that cuts through the sweetness. Vigorous, vibrant and vital, the subtle influence of finely balanced maturation casks helps show a side of Mortlach never seen before, deeply fruity and very rewarding.

Its illustrator was Sakai Kouzou, whose "artistic style is characterized by his deep love and appreciation for nature as evidenced by the intricate depictions of animals, plants and insects, along with his use of negative space and asymmetrical compositions and his ability to seamlessly blend the fantastic with the realistic, creating beautiful, rich, captivating and atmospheric illustrations."
