False Bay Pinotage 2021 does not come from over-cultivated, irrigated vines strung on wires in terribly hot and stressed vineyards. The wine comes from coastal, dry-farmed, goblet-trained coastal vines that have had time to adapt and find their happy place.
Fermentation with wild yeasts, vines on low-yielding bush vines and aging in a large French oak foudre shape this richly fruity, yet savory and satisfying Pinotage. Plummy aromas with a slight hint of roasted meat. Full and rich on the palate, with slightly rustic but savory tannins and an impressively long finish.
Founded by Paul Boutinot, False Bay Vineyards is a company that grew out of many years of involvement in South Africa, starting at a time when its wines and their potential were just being recognized. With knowledge and respect within the South African wine industry, Paul Boutinot has been able to source premium grapes for the relaunch of False Bay. False Bay, first discovered by sailors who mistook it for Table Bay to the north, has long been a haven for those sailing around the treacherous Cape of Good Hope. The cool coastal breeze blowing in from the Indian Ocean tempers the ripening process, extends the growing season and produces expressive wines with more precise varietal characters and purity. These heightened aromas make the wines approachable, perfectly balanced and full of flavor.
