At the southern tip of the Côte Chalonnaise, these vineyards form an amphitheatre on the slopes of four communes, including Montagny-lès-Buxy. This 865-acre appellation, which has 512 acres of Premier Cru vineyards, is dedicated exclusively to the production of Chardonnay.
It was the Romans who first planted vines in the region. From the Middle Ages until the Renaissance, the "Côte de Buxy" was famous and is said to have been the favourite wine of the monks of the abbey of Cluny.
